Fairbanks, Alaska – A winter storm this weekend may bring up to 10 inches of snow across Interior and Western Alaska.

According to the US National Weather Service in Fairbanks, multiple hazards have been issued ahead of the approaching system, including Blizzard Warnings, Winter Weather Advisories, and Winter Storm Watches across portions of the Central Interior and West Coast.

Forecasters said the heaviest snowfall is expected across the Western Interior, where totals between 5 and 10 inches are possible. Around Fairbanks, snowfall accumulations of approximately 6 inches are currently forecast. However, officials noted there remains uncertainty in final totals, and some areas could exceed projected amounts depending on storm track and intensity.

Communities including Kotzebue, Nome, Hooper Bay, and areas along the West Coast are under higher-end impacts, while parts of the Interior remain under advisory-level conditions.

Road conditions may deteriorate quickly along the Alaska Highway (AK-2), the Parks Highway (AK-3), and connecting rural routes near Fairbanks and through the Western Interior. Reduced visibility, drifting snow, and blowing snow are possible in areas under blizzard conditions.

Weekend travelers, freight operators, and rural residents relying on long-distance road travel could experience delays or hazardous driving conditions.

The weather service urges residents to monitor updates and review active alerts at weather.gov/afg. Additional advisories or warning adjustments are possible as the storm develops.

Snowfall rates and wind speeds will determine the severity of impacts, particularly in open areas vulnerable to blowing snow.
