Kansas City, Missouri – A dangerous stretch of extreme heat continues across Missouri and eastern Kansas this week, with heat index values climbing as high as 105 degrees through 7 p.m. Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, the Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect for much of the region, including Kansas City, Overland Park, Sedalia, and Warrensburg. The prolonged high temperatures and humidity pose a significant risk for heat-related illnesses, especially for outdoor workers, older adults, and young children.
Cities like Olathe, Leavenworth, and Independence could see consecutive days of oppressive heat, while rural areas in Chariton, Henry, and Cass counties are urged to monitor vulnerable residents and pets. Roads may also become dangerously hot, creating additional hazards for travelers and construction crews.
Residents should stay hydrated, avoid midday sun, and check on neighbors. Limit outdoor activity to early morning or evening hours, and wear light, loose-fitting clothing.
The heat is expected to persist until at least Thursday evening, with additional advisories or alerts likely as conditions evolve.
