Paducah, KY – The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning across portions of southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri, with dangerously high heat index values ranging from 105°F to 110°F. This heat wave will persist until 7 p.m. CDT Thursday, July 25, 2025.
According to the National Weather Service, residents of affected areas are advised to stay indoors in air-conditioned spaces, especially during the peak heat of the day. The oppressive heat, combined with high humidity, significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Cities like Paducah, Murray, Cape Girardeau, and Poplar Bluff will experience extreme conditions throughout the week. Local authorities warn against leaving pets or children in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in just minutes. Additionally, outdoor workers are encouraged to take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas, with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommending scheduling work around the early morning or late evening to avoid the most intense heat.
The combination of high humidity and extreme temperatures is expected to continue throughout the week, with no relief in sight until Thursday evening. Be sure to drink plenty of water, wear lightweight clothing, and avoid strenuous activities during the hottest parts of the day.
