Duluth, MN – Residents in Northern Minnesota should prepare for sweltering heat and the possibility of severe thunderstorms today. The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a heat advisory for Sunday, with temperatures expected to reach the mid-90s. Combined with high humidity, the heat index could exceed 100 degrees in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service, the heat will be accompanied by a 10-15% chance of isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms late this evening and into early Monday morning. These storms may bring large hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter and wind gusts of up to 60 mph. The best chance for storms is in northeastern Minnesota, where the potential for severe weather is greatest.
Residents are urged to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor activities during peak heat hours. The storm threat is expected to persist into the early hours of Monday, with the most likely timeframe between 10 p.m. tonight and 8 a.m. Monday morning.
