East Grand Forks, MN – An extreme Arctic chill will grip East Grand Forks and surrounding areas starting Sunday, with wind chills plummeting to near -55 degrees by Monday. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities, cover exposed skin, and prepare for potential frostbite in as little as five minutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon Saturday, followed by an Extreme Cold Watch from Sunday evening through Tuesday morning. Temperatures will hover near -5 degrees on Washington’s Birthday, with dangerous wind chills making conditions feel much colder.

Travelers on US Highway 2 and MN Highway 220 should exercise caution, as high winds and freezing temperatures could create hazardous road conditions. The coldest period is expected Monday and Tuesday mornings, with wind chills dropping between -50 and -60 degrees. Officials recommend dressing in layers, wearing insulated boots and gloves, and avoiding extended outdoor exposure.

Looking ahead, slightly milder conditions are expected by Thursday, though temperatures will remain well below freezing. Residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather alerts and prepare for prolonged cold throughout the week.
