Glasgow, MT – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Glasgow has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for Daniels, Sheridan, and Northern Valley counties, in effect from 5 p.m. Thursday to noon Friday.

Wind chills are expected to drop as low as 40 degrees below zero, creating life-threatening cold conditions across communities such as Scobey, Plentywood, Opheim, and Medicine Lake.

According to the NWS, “Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.” Exposure for as little as 10 minutes could result in frostbite. Officials urge residents to avoid extended outdoor activity, dress in multiple layers, and cover exposed skin if travel is unavoidable.

Homeowners are also advised to protect pipes from freezing, ensure portable heaters are used safely, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.

The dangerous cold will persist through early Friday before gradually easing by the afternoon. Even daytime highs are expected to remain well below zero across northeast Montana.
