GRAND FORKS, ND – The National Weather Service in Grand Forks warns that a very cold Arctic airmass will settle over eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota beginning Friday and lasting through Sunday.

Wind chills are expected to drop to -30°F to -40°F, with a few areas — particularly around Devils Lake, Langdon, and Thief River Falls — possibly reaching -45°F early Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Friday will bring northwest winds of 15–30 mph and a chance of light blowing snow in the morning. Temperatures will remain frigid, with morning lows between -10°F and +4°F and afternoon highs from -7°F to +5°F.

By Saturday, conditions turn even colder with morning lows of -13°F to -23°F and highs from -4°F to -11°F under mostly sunny skies.

These temperatures and wind chills pose a high risk of frostbite and hypothermia for anyone exposed outdoors for extended periods. Residents are urged to dress in layers, cover all exposed skin, and limit outdoor time.
