Oklahoma City, OK – An extreme cold warning is in effect for much of Oklahoma and northern Texas from 6 p.m. Tuesday through noon Thursday, with dangerously low wind chills expected.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, temperatures could feel as low as 15 to 25 degrees below zero due to strong winds. The affected area includes central, northern, and southern Oklahoma, along with parts of northern Texas, including Wichita Falls and Vernon.

Officials warn that wind chills this low can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Residents are urged to dress in multiple layers, including hats, gloves, and face masks, and limit time outdoors.

The extreme cold could also impact travel and infrastructure, with potential risks for frozen pipes and increased heating demands. Those with vulnerable family members or pets should ensure proper warmth and shelter.

Temperatures are expected to gradually rise by Thursday afternoon, but cold conditions will persist into the weekend. For updates, visit the National Weather Service or local emergency management websites.
