Cleveland, OH – Northeast Ohio residents woke to frigid temperatures Wednesday morning as an extreme cold warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. Wind chills dropped as low as -26°F, making outdoor activity dangerous. Conditions will ease slightly as highs reach the low teens by afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, frostbite can occur in just 30 minutes at these wind chill levels. Residents should limit outdoor exposure, bundle up in layers, and bring pets indoors. Despite the extreme cold, forecasters predict a gradual warm-up beginning Thursday, with daytime highs climbing to the mid-20s.

Snow showers are possible late Thursday night into Friday, with minimal accumulation expected. The warming trend will continue into the weekend, with Saturday’s high near 31°F under mostly cloudy skies. By Sunday, temperatures will hover around freezing, offering a noticeable reprieve from today’s conditions.

Roadways, including sections of I-90 and I-71, may remain slick through Thursday morning. Motorists are urged to exercise caution and check road conditions before travel. Local officials encourage residents to prepare for icy sidewalks and ensure homes are properly heated.

Lingering cold will give way to milder weather next week. The NWS anticipates no hazardous weather beyond Thursday, offering some stability for the region after a bitterly cold stretch.
