Denver, CO – Arctic air will keep Colorado in a deep freeze through early Thursday morning, with dangerously cold wind chills posing a frostbite risk in under 30 minutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, temperatures will remain bitterly low, with wind chill values plunging well below zero. The coldest periods are expected early Wednesday morning and again overnight into Thursday. Residents are urged to dress in multiple warm layers, cover exposed skin, and take frequent warming breaks if outdoors.
Officials recommend checking on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those without adequate heating, as well as keeping pets indoors as much as possible.
Wednesday’s high temperatures will struggle to reach double digits across much of the state, with overnight lows dropping below zero. Wind chills could make it feel as cold as -30°F in some areas.
The extreme cold follows a series of winter storms that have impacted the region. While no additional snowfall is expected, the dangerous wind chills will persist. The National Weather Service advises residents to stay indoors whenever possible and to prepare for hazardous conditions through Thursday morning.
