Charleston, SC – Residents in Charleston and surrounding areas are being warned of potentially severe weather this evening, as the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flood Watch for Sunday, August 11th. The region could experience rainfall amounts ranging from 1 to 2 inches, with some localized areas potentially receiving up to 4 inches.
According to the NWS Charleston office, the heavy rainfall is expected to begin this afternoon and continue into the evening. This comes on the heels of last week’s significant rainfall from the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby, which has already saturated the ground. The additional rain poses an elevated risk of flash flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and regions near rivers and streams.
Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions, such as avoiding flooded roads and securing outdoor belongings. The NWS also recommends monitoring local weather updates and following any emergency alerts. For more detailed information, visit the NWS Charleston website at weather.gov/chs.
