Paducah, Kentucky – A brutal combination of extreme heat and surging humidity will grip western Kentucky through Sunday, with the National Weather Service warning of daily heat index values between 100 and 105°F in Paducah, Murray, and Owensboro. The stifling conditions will be compounded by afternoon showers and thunderstorms, raising concerns for severe weather and flash flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, heat index values will climb above 100°F by midday each day, with the most oppressive humidity settling in by Thursday and Friday. Areas including Madisonville, Hopkinsville, and Poplar Bluff will see little relief overnight, as warm, muggy air lingers. Isolated storms could turn severe and produce localized flash flooding, especially where heavy rain persists for more than 30 minutes.

Roads like I-24 and US-60 may become slick or briefly flooded during intense downpours, while power outages can’t be ruled out if severe storms spark wind damage. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, hydrate frequently, and check on neighbors and pets. Charging mobile devices and preparing for possible power interruptions is also recommended.

This is the first stretch of widespread triple-digit heat indices for the region since early summer, and humidity is expected to climb even further into the weekend. The risk for dangerous heat and scattered storms will last through Sunday, with new advisories possible if conditions worsen.

Five-Day Forecast (Paducah, KY):
