Eureka, CA – The National Weather Service in Eureka is warning residents of strong, gusty winds set to impact northwestern California from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning, as a storm system moves across the region.

Forecasters say peak wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph are expected across much of the area, while coastal headlands and higher ridges could experience stronger gusts reaching 40 mph or more. The strongest winds are expected from Humboldt and Del Norte counties inland toward Trinity and Mendocino counties, particularly during the late Wednesday evening to early Thursday timeframe.

The NWS cautions that the winds could scatter tree debris onto roadways, cause driving difficulties in crosswinds, and potentially down small branches. Residents are urged to secure outdoor furniture, decorations, and loose property before the winds increase.

Conditions are expected to ease by early Friday, with calmer weather and slightly warmer temperatures moving in for the weekend.
