According to the National Weather Service, a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for the Eureka area through midday. Minor coastal flooding is possible in low-lying shoreline areas during peak tides. Beach access points, harbor edges, and exposed coastal roads may briefly see water encroachment.
Showers develop through the morning and linger into Sunday, with the best chances along the coast and nearby hills. Rainfall totals stay light, but slick roads are likely on U.S. 101 and local routes around Eureka and Arcata. Visibility may drop at times, especially where fog mixes with showers.
Temperatures remain cool today, topping out near the low 60s before dropping into the 40s tonight. Patchy fog forms late tonight into early Sunday, which could slow early travel near the coast and river valleys. Drivers should watch for sudden visibility changes and damp surfaces.
By Monday, conditions improve quickly. Skies turn mostly sunny, and highs reach the upper 50s. Tuesday and Wednesday trend brighter and milder, with highs climbing into the low to mid-60s. Nights stay cool but calm, reducing travel concerns after the weekend.
Farther east, winter remains intense. Nearly half of the Great Lakes are frozen, locking Arctic air over the Midwest and East. That contrast keeps Northern California mild but active along the coast as February begins.
Residents should avoid coastal flooding zones during high tides, secure loose items near the shoreline, and use caution near jetties and rocks. Additional advisories remain possible if tides or showers intensify.
