Eureka, California – Another cold morning settled over northwest California Monday, with low temperatures dropping into the 30s across much of the region, marking a chilly start to the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, morning lows were primarily in the 30s across coastal and inland areas of northwest California. The coldest readings were reported in inland valleys and higher terrain, where temperatures hovered near the freezing mark.

In Eureka, low temperatures were near 36°F, while Arcata and McKinleyville recorded lows in the mid-30s. Farther north, Crescent City dipped to around 38°F, while inland locations such as Orleans and Hoopa saw temperatures near 37°F.

Colder conditions were observed farther inland across Trinity and Mendocino counties, where temperatures dropped to 32°F in Ukiah, Hayfork, Ruth, and Covelo. Other interior locations including Willits and Laytonville also experienced lows near freezing.

Along the Mendocino Coast, Fort Bragg recorded a low near 37°F, while Point Arena and Petrolia remained slightly milder, with temperatures in the low 40s.

The National Weather Service noted that this marks another cold morning for the region, following a recent pattern of chilly overnight lows. While no precipitation was associated with the cold temperatures, officials caution that frost may develop in colder inland valleys, which could affect sensitive vegetation and early-morning travel.

Residents are encouraged to dress warmly during the morning hours and allow extra time for commutes in colder locations. Outdoor workers and early commuters are most likely to feel the impacts before temperatures gradually rise later in the day.

The National Weather Service advises monitoring local forecasts for updates as cool overnight temperatures continue across northwest California.
