EUREKA, Calif. – Drivers along U.S. 101 in Humboldt County should prepare for dense patchy fog tonight, reducing visibility and slowing traffic. Conditions could persist through the early morning hours Sunday before skies gradually clear by mid-morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, southwest winds near 6 mph will accompany overnight lows around 54 degrees. Motorists are urged to use headlights, reduce speed, and allow extra travel time until conditions improve. By Sunday, skies will brighten with highs near 66, though cloud cover will linger into Sunday night.

Monday brings a shift as mostly sunny skies return, along with highs in the mid-60s. Winds from the north-northwest at 5 to 8 mph will ease by nightfall, making for calm evening conditions. Patchy fog remains possible along coastal stretches, including U.S. 101 and nearby county roads, especially during late-night hours.

By Tuesday, temperatures will reach the upper 60s under mostly sunny skies, offering the clearest day of the week. However, fog and low clouds are expected to return by Tuesday night, continuing the coastal pattern of damp mornings and bright afternoons.

Residents should prepare for daily changes by keeping jackets handy for cool mornings and planning extra time for commutes when fog thickens. Coastal communities, including Arcata and Fortuna, may also see delays in marine traffic due to reduced visibility.

More updates are expected if fog conditions worsen overnight or extend into early week commutes.
