Eureka, California – A prolonged period of moderate to heavy rainfall is expected across Eureka and the North Coast, with the most impactful conditions developing Wednesday night into Thursday, raising concerns for localized flooding.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, rainfall totals in Eureka are forecast between 3 and 4 inches through Thursday night. Surrounding parts of Humboldt County, including Fortuna (up to 4.0 inches) and Ferndale (around 4.3 inches), could see higher totals, while interior locations such as Honeydew (near 6.9 inches) and Petrolia (around 6.5 inches) face the greatest rainfall amounts.

Rain will increase tonight through Wednesday, with 1.5 to 2.5 inches likely in coastal communities including Eureka, Arcata, and Fortuna by Wednesday afternoon. After a brief lull, a stronger system is expected to arrive Wednesday evening, bringing another 1 to 2 inches overnight into Thursday, with locally higher totals in the King Range and interior river valleys.

Trinity County is expected to see the highest impacts overall, with 3 to 4 inches near Trinity Center and over 7 inches possible near Coffee Creek by the end of the event.

With the ground already saturated, the National Weather Service warns that urban flooding, small stream rises, and roadway ponding are possible, especially during periods of heavier rain late Wednesday night and Thursday.

Residents are urged to remain alert for rapidly changing conditions and to monitor official updates as the storm sequence continues through the end of the week.
