EUGENE, Ore. – A stretch of sunshine and unseasonably warm air continues for western Oregon early this week, but residents should prepare for clouds and rain to return by Thursday night. Daytime highs near 80°F Monday and Tuesday will make for an unusually mild start to October before a cooling trend sets in midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, calm and clear conditions Monday will give way to partly cloudy skies Wednesday, followed by a 20 to 40 percent chance of showers by late Thursday. Winds remain light through midweek before picking up slightly as a weak Pacific front moves inland.

Drivers and commuters in Eugene, Springfield, and along I-5 should plan for slick roads and slower travel Thursday night into Friday as scattered rain develops. Outdoor plans early in the week are favored, but those heading to campus or evening events later this week may want to pack rain gear.

Showers are expected to linger through the weekend with highs cooling into the 60s and overnight lows in the mid-40s. Additional storm systems may move in by early next week.
