Eugene, Ore. – Drivers across Oregon will see a split weekend as summerlike sunshine Saturday quickly turns into wet, cooler conditions by Sunday night. Those planning outdoor events or travel on I-5 should take advantage of clear skies early, because rain looks increasingly likely to close out the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, Saturday will bring mostly sunny skies with highs near 80 degrees across Eugene and surrounding Lane County. Winds remain light, making conditions ideal for road travel and community events. By late Sunday, however, clouds will thicken with rain spreading into the southern Willamette Valley, including Springfield and Cottage Grove.

Commuters using I-105 and Beltline Highway should prepare for slick pavement Monday morning as rain continues into the workweek. Highs drop into the upper 60s by Monday and Tuesday, signaling the first real taste of October’s cooler, wetter pattern. The shift comes as the Pacific storm track begins edging southward, pulling Oregon out of its late-September stretch of dry days.

Residents should secure outdoor items, check storm drains for blockages, and prepare for slower traffic during wet commutes. While temperatures remain comfortably above freezing, the early taste of fall rain offers a preview of winter’s approaching chill.

More showers are likely through midweek, and forecasters caution that additional advisories may follow as October begins.
