EUGENE, Ore. – Drivers in western Oregon could see slick pavement on I-5 and Highway 126 Wednesday night as scattered thunderstorms move through the region, raising concerns about reduced visibility and sudden downpours.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms lingers through early Thursday morning before skies clear and temperatures soar to near 92°F by afternoon. Commuters should plan for slower travel late Wednesday night, while utility crews remain alert for isolated outages from lightning strikes.

Eugene and Springfield face the greatest risk of brief storms before drier air pushes in Thursday. Calm morning winds will shift to a northwest breeze around 8 mph, helping to clear skies by midday. Thursday night brings another slight shower chance, but overall conditions remain mostly dry.

By Friday, highs reach 86°F under partly sunny skies with only a small risk of showers at night. The weekend turns more unsettled, with a stronger chance of rain arriving Saturday. Outdoor events, including fall football games, may see delays or slippery field conditions if showers develop.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary nighttime driving during storms, keep devices charged in case of outages, and allow extra travel time on major routes.

The National Weather Service will continue to update advisories as conditions evolve through the weekend.
