Eugene, OR – A damp and foggy start will give way to a wetter stretch this weekend before brighter skies and warmer temperatures return early next week. The National Weather Service in Portland reports patchy fog overnight into Friday morning, followed by mostly sunny skies and highs near the upper 60s.

According to the agency, rain chances increase Friday night with scattered showers developing late. The most widespread rainfall is expected Saturday, when showers are likely across Lane County and neighboring Willamette Valley areas. Motorists on I-5 between Eugene and Salem should prepare for reduced visibility and slick pavement during the day Saturday.

By Saturday night, showers will taper off, and drier air builds in by Sunday. Highs will climb into the low 70s Sunday afternoon, with skies gradually clearing. Forecasters say calm winds and dry conditions will dominate early next week, sending daytime highs into the mid-70s Monday and Tuesday, unseasonably warm for early October.

Travelers and residents are advised to allow extra time for morning commutes during fog events, particularly near river valleys and low-lying farmland. Saturday’s rainfall may bring minor ponding on roads but no major flooding is anticipated. Outdoor plans improve dramatically by Sunday afternoon, making for favorable conditions for fall sports, winery tours, and hiking. Pets, plants, and pipes remain safe as frost is not expected through the five-day period.
