EUGENE, Ore. – A damp Columbus Day will give way to a welcome stretch of warm fall sunshine across western Oregon, bringing drier commutes and brighter afternoons starting Tuesday. After a soggy Sunday and Monday, residents can expect clearer skies and more comfortable conditions for school and work returns across Lane County.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, lingering showers will taper off early Tuesday as a ridge of high pressure builds inland. South and west-facing slopes may still see brief drizzle before noon, but widespread sunshine will develop by afternoon. Temperatures are expected to climb into the low 60s Tuesday and mid-60s Wednesday, several degrees above the seasonal norm.

Drivers along I-5 and Highway 126 should still allow extra time early Monday for slick pavement and patchy fog in low-lying areas. Storm drains may remain partially clogged with early fall leaves, causing ponding near intersections. Crews are urging residents to clear curbs and gutters before heavier rain returns late in the week.

The calmer, brighter pattern will also favor outdoor plans at local pumpkin patches, parks, and fall leaf-viewing trails. Farmers’ markets and schools can expect dry, mild mornings through midweek before another system approaches late Thursday.

By Friday, another round of light showers could bring scattered wet spots for evening football games. Still, no major cold snaps or frost risks are forecast in the Willamette Valley through next weekend.
