Essex, CT – Connecticut State Police are warning residents in several shoreline towns to secure their vehicles after multiple thefts and break-ins occurred overnight between Saturday and Sunday.

According to Resident State Trooper Mark Roberts, vehicles in Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Clinton, Deep River, and Essex were entered during the overnight hours, with several stolen. A car previously stolen from Avon was later recovered in Essex, while another vehicle taken from Deep River was found in the West Hartford/Avon area.

Authorities say these thefts are part of a broader trend statewide, where suspects target unlocked vehicles, often taking advantage of keys left inside. Police urge residents to remove valuables, secure their keys, and lock their cars when unattended.

“Please help prevent these incidents by removing your keys, taking or hiding your belongings, and locking your vehicles,” Trooper Roberts said in the release.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity immediately to local law enforcement.
