Marquette, Michigan – Light snow showers could develop near US-41 and M-28 Friday morning as temperatures hover near freezing across the eastern Upper Peninsula.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, a few light snow showers are possible in the far eastern U.P. early Friday. The greatest chance for light accumulation will be near Lake Superior communities, including Munising, Newberry, and Sault Ste. Marie.
Overnight lows are expected to fall into the teens and lower 20s across much of the region. Friday afternoon highs will range from the upper 30s to near 42 degrees in the west, including Ironwood and Watersmeet. However, eastern areas near Lake Superior are forecast to cool back to near or slightly below freezing as a cold front pushes onshore.
Major roadways including U.S. Highway 41 through Marquette, M-28 across Alger and Schoolcraft counties, U.S. Highway 2 near Escanaba, and Interstate 75 near Sault Ste. Marie could see brief slick spots during the Friday morning commute if light snow develops.
No significant accumulation is expected, but reduced visibility and patchy icy stretches may occur in localized areas.
Drivers traveling early Friday, particularly students and morning commuters, should allow extra time and watch for changing conditions near the Lake Superior shoreline.
Conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy Friday night with no major storm systems immediately following.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts if snow shower coverage increases.
