Erie, PA – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Southern Erie and Crawford counties through 1 p.m. Monday as lake-effect snow continues to impact travel across northwest Pennsylvania.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, additional snow accumulations of up to 4 inches are expected, with the highest totals anticipated across eastern inland Erie County and northeastern Crawford County. Areas farther west will see lighter amounts as snow bands shift and weaken by early afternoon.
The heaviest snowfall rates are expected early this morning, potentially creating hazardous conditions for the Monday morning commute in areas such as Corry, Edinboro, Meadville, Union City and Titusville. Roads may become slick quickly, and reduced visibility is possible at times within stronger lake-effect bands.
Forecasters warn that drivers should plan for slower travel and allow extra time to reach their destinations. Conditions may vary significantly over short distances, with heavier bursts of snow giving way to lighter accumulation only a few miles away.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission are urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel and adhere to any posted restrictions. Travelers can check updated road conditions at 511PA.com.
The NWS advises drivers to slow down, use caution and remain alert for icy patches, especially on bridges, hills and less-treated rural routes. Snow is expected to gradually diminish by midday, improving conditions heading into the afternoon.
