Buffalo, N.Y. – Western New York stays locked in a cool, unsettled pattern today with scattered showers and the chance for a rumble of thunder into tonight. Afternoon highs will hover in the upper 60s, keeping conditions feeling more like early fall than late August.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, showers will become more likely after 3 p.m., with thunderstorms possible before 11 p.m. While severe weather isn’t expected, localized downpours could briefly reduce visibility and make evening driving difficult. Winds from the west at 7 to 15 mph may also create choppy conditions along Lake Erie.

Residents in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and surrounding Erie County communities should keep umbrellas handy and allow extra time for the evening commute. Travelers on I-90 and Route 33 may encounter wet roads during the late afternoon and evening. The weather service notes rainfall totals will stay light for most areas, but heavier bursts could occur under thunderstorms.

Skies will gradually clear overnight, setting up a sunny stretch on Wednesday with highs near 70. Additional rounds of showers are expected to return Thursday and Friday before drier, more seasonal conditions settle in for the weekend.
