Elmira, Oregon – A 41-year-old Elmira man was arrested Wednesday morning after a multi-agency response and search on a rural property west of town.

According to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Oregon State Police troopers responded around 8 a.m. to a property in the 23000 block of W. Sheffler Road after determining that Jack Weldon Baker, 41, was likely on the property. Baker was allegedly connected to several recent incidents under investigation.

Authorities said Baker had been the subject of prior searches related to multiple alleged crimes. Deputies deployed a drone to assist in locating him on the property, which included brush and wooded areas.

After approximately one hour, Baker was located hiding in brush and detained without incident, officials said.

A detective then applied for and received a search warrant for Baker’s residence, which was granted by a circuit court judge. During the search, deputies located two firearms inside the home. Investigators said additional investigation followed before Baker was formally taken into custody.

Baker was lodged at the Lane County Jail on multiple charges, including failure to report as a sex offender, felony possession of a firearm, assault in the fourth degree, attempt to elude a police officer by vehicle, reckless driving, and second-degree criminal trespass.

No injuries were reported during the incident, and authorities did not indicate that the public was placed under immediate threat.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office credited the Oregon State Police for assisting with the response and investigation.

The incident may be of particular relevance to rural residents and commuters in the Elmira area, where deputies frequently respond to property-related incidents involving wooded terrain.

The investigation remains ongoing.
