Elmhurst, Ill. — Elmhurst University in Elmhurst, Illinois, announced this week that they have named their Department of Nursing and Public Health after Diane Tyrell.
The department was named after critical care nurse Diane Tyrell. She and her husband, Trustee Emeritus Thomas Tyrell who graduated from Elmhurst in 1967, have supported the university for nearly 50 years, the university said.
Diane was a critical care nurse for 45 years. In 1988, she was named Nurse of the Year at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. Thomas became a trustee in 1990 and served until 2011. He was chair of the trustee board from 2002 to 2007.
On June 7, the Diane Tyrell Department of Nursing and Public Health was dedicated in a ceremony at Elmhurst University’s new Health Sciences Building. The building has been under construction and will be open to new students in the fall.
Elmhurst University reports that the Tyrell’s have supported the university in several other areas, such as athletics and the Tyrell Fitness Center. There is also a student scholarship named the Diane M. Tyrell Clinical Nursing Endowed Scholarship Fund.
