Elmhurst, Ill. — The Elmhurst Park District has shared that it will be constructing a new Wagner Community Center. The announcement follows a voter-approved bond referendum in November of last year.

The new Wagner Community Center will have a modern design that can better accommodate all ages. The goal is to reduce program waitlists and serve the needs of the community with this space. The Park Board has already approved a new exterior design for the center. Amenities for the future building include a three lane walking and jogging track, gymnasium, indoor turf and larger gymnastics spaces. To address waitlist issues, there will be additional multi-purpose spaces. For young kids, there will be an indoor play area and dedicated early childhood space, which includes secure entrances.

During construction starting in August, the Park District said that many Wager Community Center programs may be relocated to other Elmhurst Park District Facilities this fall.

The first fall session of dance and gymnastics classes will be at the Wagner Center. The registration desk will also be available in Wagner in the fall. Beginning December 1, dance and gymnastics programs will be moved to a newly-leased space at 185 Industrial Drive for the second fall session.. The Park Board approved of the lease in May.
