Elmhurst, Ill. — The City of Elmhurst said that the road closure of Electric Avenue/Vallette Street for the Central Tri-State Tollway reconstruction project would be extended.

Electric Avenue/Vallette Street has been closed for the Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294) reconstruction project. The closure is between Edgewood Avenue in Elmhurst and Coolidge Avenue in Berkeley. The City shared an update with residents on July 9 that the roadwork and closure would be extended through Friday, July 25. This closure will support the work done for the tollway reconstruction project at the I-290/I-88 interchange.

The Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294) project is an effort to restructure and widen the 22-mile stretch of tollway from Balmoral Avenue to 95th Street, providing congestion relief and redoing old infrastructure. The project will meet the regional needs as well as current and future transportation demand. The project is scheduled from 2018 to 2027 and will cost an estimated $4 billion.

Elmhurst previously shared a closure alert for Electric Avenue/Vallette Street on June 19 to work on the bridge structures at I-294 and I-290. That project began on Monday, June 22, at 9:00 a.m.
