Elkview, WV – A U-Haul truck crashed into a home along Elk River Road North Tuesday afternoon, rupturing utilities and sending one person to the hospital with severe injuries.
According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, the truck was traveling north when it left the roadway and slammed into the residence, breaking through the foundation wall and partially entering the basement. The crash triggered both a water and gas leak inside the home, prompting an urgent response from multiple agencies.
Emergency crews, including Kanawha County Ambulance, Charleston Fire Department, and local volunteer fire departments, worked quickly to shut off utilities before conditions worsened. The driver was transported by medics with serious injuries, while the homeowner was not inside the residence at the time and was not hurt.
Witnesses told deputies that speed may have played a role in the crash. Investigators remain on scene reviewing the circumstances, and charges could be filed.
