El Paso, Texas – Thunderstorms are expected to sweep across the El Paso region this weekend, with heavy rain and lightning possible from Friday evening through Sunday night. The unsettled weather could disrupt outdoor plans and bring localized flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are most likely Friday night into Saturday morning, with rain chances climbing to 60%. Storms will redevelop Saturday afternoon with a 40% chance of downpours, followed by another round overnight when the chance of rain spikes to 80%. Conditions will remain unstable through Sunday, when additional showers and storms are expected before tapering off by Sunday night.

Fort Bliss, Canutillo, and east El Paso neighborhoods should prepare for brief heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and frequent lightning. Drivers along I-10 and U.S. 54 may encounter slick roads, especially during the overnight hours when storms are most intense. Officials urge residents to avoid flooded intersections, charge electronic devices in case of power interruptions, and limit unnecessary travel during storm periods.

Relief arrives Monday as drier, sunnier weather returns to the borderland. However, the National Weather Service notes more updates may follow if storm development trends stronger than expected.
