El Paso, Texas – Extreme heat is gripping the Borderland this weekend, with temperatures surging past 105°F across El Paso, Las Cruces, and surrounding areas through midnight Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in El Paso, a Heat Advisory is in effect from noon Saturday until midnight MDT Monday, with daytime highs ranging from 104° to 107°F across far West Texas and southern New Mexico. Affected areas include El Paso County, Hudspeth County, Dona Ana County, and cities such as Deming, Fabens, Sunland Park, Fort Bliss, and Tornillo.

The intense heat could trigger heat-related illnesses, especially for those without access to air conditioning. Outdoor workers, seniors, and children are especially vulnerable. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat, and check on neighbors or relatives who may be at risk.

Cooling centers are expected to remain open in El Paso and Las Cruces. Commuters should also watch for vehicle overheating or road hazards caused by pavement softening.

This heat event arrives earlier than usual, similar to a June 2022 pattern that strained local power grids. Officials urge energy conservation during peak hours.

The Heat Advisory remains in effect through midnight Monday, and additional alerts may follow if temperatures remain above seasonal averages.
