EF-0 Tornado Hits Northern Indiana: Damage Reported in Miami and Fulton Counties

Macy, IN – A weak tornado touched down in northern Indiana on March 19, impacting Miami and Fulton counties, the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed.

According to the NWS Northern Indiana office, the EF-0 tornado, with peak winds of 85 mph, was on the ground from 8:20 to 8:23 p.m. EDT. The tornado traveled 2.72 miles with a maximum width of 100 yards before dissipating. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

Survey teams determined the tornado initially touched down east of CR N 25 W, south of Pleasant Hill Road, where it flipped an outbuilding in a wooded area. The tornado reached its strongest point near the intersection of Meridian and Pleasant Hill Road, severely damaging a barn. Roof debris and siding were found scattered across fields into Fulton County. The tornado eventually crossed S 1000 E, E 350 S, and S 1075 E before weakening, leaving mostly tree damage.

This tornado event serves as a reminder for residents to stay alert during severe weather season. The NWS advises monitoring local forecasts and having a safety plan in place in case of future storms.
