According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake struck at a depth of 5.0 kilometers, a relatively shallow level that can increase the chance of surface shaking despite the lower magnitude. The event has been reviewed and confirmed by seismic monitors.
Communities across Eddy County, including areas along U.S. Route 62/180 and near Carlsbad Caverns National Park, may have felt slight movement, described typically as a quick jolt or vibration. No injuries or infrastructure damage have been reported, and emergency management agencies have not issued any alerts.
