Easton, WA – A Winter Weather Advisory issued Monday afternoon warns of significant snowfall and dangerous travel conditions developing across the eastern slopes of the Washington Cascades, including the Easton and Roslyn areas, beginning Tuesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, the advisory is in effect from 4 p.m. Tuesday through 10 p.m. PST Wednesday, with 6 to 10 inches of snow expected across the upper slopes of the Eastern Washington Cascades Crest. Wind gusts could reach 45 mph, further reducing visibility and increasing travel hazards.

The affected area includes higher elevations near Easton and Roslyn in Kittitas County, along key mountain routes frequently used by travelers crossing the Cascades. Forecasters say periods of heavy snowfall combined with strong winds may create near-whiteout conditions at times.

The advisory was upgraded Monday at 2:10 p.m. PST, signaling increased confidence in impactful winter weather. Snowfall rates may be intense during peak periods, making driving conditions especially difficult for passenger vehicles and commercial traffic.

Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, increase following distances, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Chain requirements or temporary closures are possible if conditions worsen.

Those planning travel through mountain passes Tuesday night or Wednesday should closely monitor forecasts and road conditions. Real-time travel updates are available through the Washington State Department of Transportation at wsdot.wa.gov/travel.

The National Weather Service cautions that even small shifts in storm intensity could lead to higher snowfall totals in localized areas, particularly along ridgelines and exposed slopes.

Residents and travelers are encouraged to prepare emergency supplies, check tire traction, and delay travel if possible during the most intense snowfall periods.
