Charleston, WV – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston has issued a Wind Advisory for parts of the West Virginia highlands, in effect from 2 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT Friday.

According to the NWS, west winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected in Northwest Pocahontas and Southeast Randolph Counties, including the communities of Snowshoe and Harman.

Forecasters warn that tree limbs may be blown down, leading to isolated power outages, and that unsecured outdoor objects could be moved or damaged by strong gusts. Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, are advised to use caution when traveling through open or elevated areas.

Winds are expected to peak through Friday morning before gradually subsiding in the late afternoon. The advisory comes as a strong cold front moves across the Appalachian region, ushering in cooler, drier air for the weekend.
