Spokane, WA – Warm sunshine will give much of eastern Washington a brief early-summer feel through Friday before a cooler, wetter pattern settles across the Inland Northwest this weekend.

Afternoon temperatures across the region will climb into the 60s Wednesday and Thursday, with some communities pushing into the low to mid-70s by Friday. That warmth will likely make Friday the mildest day of the week across Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, and much of the Columbia Basin.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a cold front arriving late Friday night will shift the pattern quickly. The system is expected to bring widespread rain and scattered thunderstorms across eastern Washington and north Idaho through Saturday and Sunday.

Travelers along Interstate 90 from Ritzville through Spokane and into Idaho could encounter wet pavement and reduced visibility during heavier showers. Outdoor plans this weekend may also face interruptions as storm cells move through the region.

Temperatures will also slide downward behind the front. Highs that reach the 70s Friday are expected to fall back into the lower to mid-60s Saturday, with many areas struggling to leave the 50s by Sunday.

Residents planning weekend travel or outdoor events should keep rain gear handy and stay alert for lightning during passing thunderstorms. Additional updates may be issued as the cold front approaches late Friday.
