Spokane, Washington – Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility are slowing the Friday morning commute across eastern Washington and parts of north Idaho as a winter system drops several inches of fresh snow across the Inland Northwest.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon Friday for the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene areas, including Spokane Valley, Cheney, Post Falls, and Airway Heights. Snow totals of 2 to 5 inches are expected above 2,000 feet, while lower elevations could see up to 2 inches by late morning.

Road conditions may deteriorate quickly along Interstate 90, U.S. Highway 2, and Highway 195, where early morning snowfall is creating slick pavement and reduced traction during peak travel hours.

Farther west, communities along the Highway 2 corridor in the Upper Columbia Basin, including Grand Coulee and Wilbur, may see up to 3 inches of snow, while the Waterville Plateau could pick up 1 to 4 inches through midday.

Mountain routes are expected to see the highest totals. Blewett Pass near Leavenworth may receive between 2 and 8 inches, creating difficult driving conditions through late morning.

Drivers in Washington can check current highway conditions at wsdot.wa.gov/travel, while Idaho travelers can call 511 for updated road reports.

Snowfall should taper by midday Friday, but slick roads may persist into the afternoon as temperatures hover near freezing across the region.
