Spokane, Washington – Snow will continue to coat roads across northeast Washington through 8 p.m. tonight, creating slick conditions during the Thursday evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. for the Northeast Mountains, including Colville, Newport, Chewelah and Deer Park. An additional 1 to 4 inches of snow is expected before precipitation tapers later this evening.
Higher elevations and mountain routes such as Flowery Trail Road, Orin-Rice Road and stretches near Metaline Falls and Northport will see the most consistent snowfall. Secondary highways and rural roads around Ione, Kettle Falls and Springdale may become snow-covered and slippery by late afternoon as temperatures hold near freezing.
The Washington State Department of Transportation advises drivers to reduce speed and allow extra stopping distance, especially on bridges and shaded stretches where snow may compact into ice. Motorists can check real-time road conditions at wsdot.wa.gov/travel before heading out.
Snow is expected to wind down after 8 p.m., but patchy ice could linger overnight as temperatures drop. Additional advisories may be issued if new bands develop.
