Spokane, Washington – Hot, dry weather is surging back into eastern Washington this weekend, putting much of the Inland Northwest on alert for wildfires and dangerous heat. Spokane, Wenatchee, and Moses Lake could all see highs near or above 100°F by Sunday afternoon, while gusty winds threaten to fan flames in already parched grasslands.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Fire Weather Watch is in effect for Central Washington—including Chelan, Omak, and Wenatchee—from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Winds from the west-northwest are expected to reach 15-20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, while afternoon humidity drops as low as 15%. These conditions mean any spark could quickly turn into a fast-moving wildfire.
Cities including Spokane (95°F), Moses Lake (101°F), and Lewiston (102°F) will swelter in triple-digit heat on Sunday and Monday. Fire danger will remain high through early next week, with additional breezy conditions expected Monday and Tuesday. Residents are urged to avoid any outdoor burning, fully extinguish campfires, and never toss cigarettes on dry ground. Limit outdoor work and stay hydrated.
Temperatures are forecast to ease slightly by midweek, but fire concerns remain until winds shift from the north. Watch for updated advisories as conditions can change quickly.
