Spokane, Wash. – A late-summer heat wave is taking hold across eastern Washington, with Spokane climbing into the 90s by Thursday and pushing toward triple-digit heat by Sunday. The hot, dry stretch will dominate the region through early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, Wednesday will top out near 86 degrees with light south winds, before temperatures steadily rise into the upper 80s Thursday and lower 90s Friday. By Saturday, Spokane is expected to reach 96 degrees, followed by highs around 97 on Sunday and Monday.
The extended period of heat raises risks for dehydration, wildfire spread, and heat-related illness. Spokane County emergency officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. With overnight lows staying in the low 60s, little relief is expected after sunset.
Dry conditions are also increasing fire danger across the Inland Northwest. Light winds could quickly spread flames if new ignitions occur, particularly in rural areas west of Spokane and into northern Idaho.
The heat wave is expected to linger through at least Tuesday, keeping Spokane and surrounding communities hot and dry into next week.
