Spokane, Wash. – Triple-digit heat is set to ease across the Inland Northwest by midweek, but relief may arrive with scattered storms, rain showers, and cooler highs in the 80s.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, southeast Washington and north-central Idaho stand the best chance of measurable rain beginning late Wednesday into Thursday. Lewiston could see up to a tenth of an inch, while Winchester may collect nearly half an inch. The added moisture comes with a 25–50% chance of storms in parts of the region.
Thunder chances peak in Pullman, Lewiston, and Winchester late Wednesday and Thursday, with probabilities reaching 25% in some communities. Spokane and Coeur d’Alene carry a lower 10–15% chance, but passing showers could still develop. Any storm activity may bring gusty winds and lightning, raising fire weather concerns despite cooler temperatures.
Daytime highs will shift from the upper 90s Tuesday to the mid-80s by Thursday, offering temporary relief from the heat. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and prepare for sudden weather changes, especially in travel corridors such as U.S. 195 and I-90.
Storm and rain chances linger into Friday before conditions stabilize for the weekend.
