Spokane, Wash. – Strong winds and hot, dry conditions are creating critical fire weather across eastern Washington today, with the highest danger expected in rural areas where vegetation remains parched. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning or any activities that could spark a fire.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, Wednesday will bring sunny skies, gusty winds, and above-normal temperatures, raising the risk of rapid fire spread. Conditions will improve Thursday, with partly cloudy skies and seasonably warm weather offering a brief break before a cooler, wetter pattern moves in.

By Friday, a significant shift in the weather will bring widespread cloud cover and pockets of rain across the Inland Northwest, lowering fire danger but creating slick travel on mountain passes. Saturday is expected to remain cooler with continued rain chances, particularly in higher elevations.

Officials advise keeping emergency go-bags ready, staying alert for new fire starts, and using extra caution when driving in smoky or rainy conditions. Fire danger warnings remain in effect through tonight, with further updates expected if winds persist into Thursday.
