Roslyn, Washington – Mountain travel across the Eastern Washington Cascades could become treacherous overnight as snowfall rates intensify and up to 20 inches stack up above 5,000 feet through 1 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, additional snow accumulations of 14 to 20 inches are expected along the upper slopes of the Cascade crest. Around pass levels near Easton and Snoqualmie Pass, 4 to 8 inches are likely before snow tapers Monday afternoon.

Relatively warmer daytime road temperatures may limit impacts on the most heavily traveled highways during daylight hours. However, periods of moderate to heavy snowfall will increase slick spots, especially after sunset when surfaces cool and snow begins to stick more efficiently.

Drivers using Interstate 90 near Snoqualmie Pass and nearby mountain routes should prepare for rapidly changing conditions overnight into early Monday. Snow-covered lanes, reduced visibility and slushy buildup are likely during heavier bursts.

Travelers should slow down, carry chains if required and check WSDOT road reports before departure. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. Monday, and additional updates are possible if snowfall rates exceed expectations overnight.
