Spokane, Washington – High winds and critical fire weather are set to grip central and eastern Washington through Monday, putting communities from Chelan to Okanogan Valley on alert for wildfire outbreaks, power outages, and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect for much of Chelan County—including Wenatchee and the eastern slopes of the Cascades—until 9 p.m. Sunday, with northwest winds reaching 20 mph and gusts to 30 mph. Relative humidity will dip as low as 15 percent, intensifying wildfire danger as temperatures climb near 100 degrees.

A Fire Weather Watch follows for a wider region, including Spokane, Moses Lake, and Colville, from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday. Gusty northwest winds between 15–30 mph (and 35–45 mph gusts) could rapidly spread any new or existing fires. The Okanogan Valley faces a separate High Wind Watch Monday afternoon and evening, where sustained winds from the north at 30–40 mph may bring peak gusts up to 60 mph, increasing risks for downed trees, power outages, blowing dust, and rough lake conditions.

Residents should fully extinguish campfires, avoid burning, and dispose of cigarettes properly. Limit outdoor activities near dry vegetation, secure loose objects, and prepare for possible utility interruptions. Travel on highways such as US-97 and SR-20 could become dangerous for high-profile vehicles due to wind and dust.

Conditions remain volatile, with additional fire weather advisories possible through Tuesday. Stay tuned to local alerts and weather.gov/Spokane for updates.
