Spokane, Wash. – Thick haze and lingering wildfire smoke are keeping Spokane under an air quality alert this weekend, with occasional storm chances adding to the unsettled conditions. Temperatures will stay near 90 degrees through Sunday before a slight cooldown next week.

According to the National Weather Service, smoky skies will dominate Saturday with light winds limiting improvement. A 20 percent chance of thunderstorms arrives late Saturday night into Sunday morning, with the greatest risk of showers Sunday afternoon and evening. Storms may briefly improve visibility, but more haze is likely to return overnight.

Cities across eastern Washington, including Spokane Valley, Cheney, and Deer Park, may see reduced visibility at times, making outdoor activity difficult. Health officials recommend limiting time outside, especially for children, older adults, and those with asthma or heart conditions. Drivers should also use extra caution on I-90 and U.S. 2, where smoke can lower visibility in pockets.

Conditions will shift early next week as highs ease back into the mid-70s and scattered showers return Monday night through Tuesday.

Air quality alerts remain in effect through the weekend, and additional advisories may follow if smoke persists into next week.
