Wakefield, Virginia – Temperatures are climbing fast across eastern Virginia, with summer-like heat set to push into the 90s by midweek and no rainfall expected to provide relief.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, dry conditions will persist through at least Friday, with a steady warming trend already underway this weekend. Highs range from the upper 60s to upper 70s today, then climb into the upper 70s to mid-80s by Monday before reaching the upper 80s to low 90s Tuesday through Thursday.
Cities including Richmond, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach will see prolonged dry weather, with inland areas most likely to hit the low 90s. Coastal areas will remain slightly cooler, generally in the mid to upper 80s, but still well above normal for this time of year.
The extended dry stretch combined with rising temperatures could elevate fire danger, particularly in areas with dry vegetation. With no rain in the outlook, soil moisture will continue to drop, increasing stress on crops and local water supplies.
Residents should conserve water, avoid outdoor burning, and take precautions during peak afternoon heat. The dry pattern is expected to continue into next weekend, with record temperatures possible if the trend holds.
