Richmond, VA – Residents across eastern and central Virginia should prepare for a line of gusty showers and strong winds late tonight as a cold front sweeps through the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield.
Forecasters expect showers to move from west to east between 8 p.m. and 1 a.m., bringing widespread wind gusts up to 40 mph and localized bursts reaching 50–60 mph. The highest gusts are likely near coastal areas and open stretches of the Northern Neck and Tidewater regions.
While no significant flooding or tornado risk is expected, the NWS notes that isolated power outages, blowing debris, and hazardous crosswinds may accompany the passing line of storms. Drivers are urged to use caution, especially on east–west highways and elevated bridges.
Winds will gradually ease by early Monday morning as cooler, drier air moves in behind the front.
