Marquette, Michigan – Another chilly winter day is underway across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, with light lake-effect snow continuing in the east and additional snowfall possible through tonight.

According to the National Weather Service Marquette, daytime highs today are expected to remain in the teens, with partly to mostly cloudy skies. Light lake-effect snow showers will persist mainly across the eastern Upper Peninsula, where localized impacts are possible.

Forecasters say an additional 2 to 4 inches of snow could accumulate in portions of the eastern UP through tonight. Elsewhere, snowfall amounts are expected to remain lighter, though occasional flurries may occur.

Tonight, temperatures are forecast to drop into the single digits, with lows ranging from 3 to 13 degrees, allowing untreated roads to remain slick, especially in areas receiving steady lake-effect snow.

Looking ahead to Saturday, light snow is expected to become more widespread across the Upper Peninsula as another system moves through. High temperatures Saturday are forecast to range from 15 to 22 degrees, keeping conditions cold enough for snow to continue.

While no major winter storm is expected, periods of light snow and cold temperatures may impact travel, particularly in the eastern UP and during overnight and early morning hours.

Drivers should use caution on snow-covered roads and allow extra time for travel, especially in lake-effect-prone areas.
